Wim Delvoye: Gothic Machines, Pigskin and…

Amongst other interesting projects, Delvoye got some of his friends to paint parts of their bodies with small amounts of barium, have sex in medical clinics, and then used the X-ray images as giant stained-glass church windows:

And then there’s his hobby of tattooing pigs:

This last piece is available to buy via Artnet (dread to think what it would cost you though)

or if you have 7,000 Euros, you could invest in an anal lipstick-print on hotel writing paper:

I think that’s probably enough art for tonight…

hm… is the pig-tattooing for real? don’t want to create a fuss here, but if it is then it’s just stupid and cruel, not Art.

  2. Oh, it’s real alright – see also

“Wim: I started tattooing pig hides, which I’d get from the slaughterhouses, in 1994. It was only in 1997 that I started to work on live sedated pigs. I tattoo pigs because they grow fast and they are so much better to tattoo than fish. I tattoo them when they are young and I like the way the artwork stretches and distorts over time. Essentially, we invest in small tattoos and we harvest large paintings. Yes, I am a vegetarian.”
