Eye of death:

The YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL) has been some twelve years in the making. Now, after various stages of testing and the odd hold-up, it looks likely to be given the green light for an in-flight missile shoot-down sometime in 2009.

  1. Yeah, I’ve been hearing about this thing since elementary school. Finally it’s here. For good or bad? Hell if I know. At least it means some people supposed to be nuked will potentially be able to avoid certain and painful death if the US gov allows them to.

  2. Ah ha ha ha haaaaa! That’s a billion dollars wasted.

Problem 1: what happens if the missile is fired at the plane from _behind_ it?

Problem 2: what happens when missile manufacturers start giving their missiles reflective coatings?

    Still want one though….
