  1. You know, it’s funny. I have a friend whose doctor prescribed her 80mg of Prozac and 80mg of Strattera. She’s 100lbs. Prozac inhibits an isoenzhyme which breaks down atomoxetine, resulting in systemic exposure levels of **480 – 640**mg. Her intro dose should have been *24*mg. She was passing out and having migraines and rashes and all kinds of really unpleasant shit.

AND! All it took for me to find that out was typing in “prozac strattera interactions” into Google and clicking a couple links; something the doctor could have done right in her office! “Oh, hold on. Before I prescribe these life-altering medications to you, let me do a double check for interactions”. Is that really so hard? I’m supposed to trust these people?

  2. @Kai’enne:

I’d blame that one on the pharmacist. A doctor could be forgiven for not knowing about the interaction off the top of their head, but any competent pharmacist has automated interaction detection.

  3. I self medicate with a selection of substances and I’m in better shape than I have been in years because of it. I’m not going to recommend it to everyone, mind – I only got to that point because it was my last resort. But sometimes taking responsibility for active involvement in your treatment means taking that last step into self-medication.
